The
College, and the University we hope to create, intend
to be a microcosm of Nepali society and to welcome students
from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Our society is going through an enormous change and modernization.
But as recent events have shown there is a need for a
greater understanding of the basis for good governance
and a civil society if we are to build a successful democracy
in the future.
And that can only be achieved with the help of a free
and robust press underpinned by journalistic excellence.
Our vision is to build on the good professional journalistic
practice, which already exists, to create a mass media
led by that journalistic excellence.
The Founder, and Principal of the college, who has also
set up the Woman Journalists’ Association of Nepal
Dr. Manju Mishra, says of the college:
“ We are driven by the conviction that excellence
in journalism can do so much to underpin the development
and good governance of our country and South Asia as a
whole and that it is a career that should be open to the
best of our young people regardless of gender or wealth.”
A journalist, who returned to Nepal after 18 years abroad,
she has also committed herself to work towards narrowing
the information gap between the urban and rural parts
of the Himalayan Kingdom.
Dr. Mishra believes that the new generation of journalists
needs to have a greater say in leading journalism in a
new direction, one in which the media plays a role in
building a robust and democratic nation, and where journalists
uphold professional norms and values in all that they
do. Read More
