In an age of rapid mass communication, it has become
increasingly clear that journalism can and will play
a pivotal role in the process of social and economic
development of any country.
It has an enormous contribution
to build good governance and successful democracies
in developing countries in particular.
At the same time the tremendous
potential for the instant dissemination of information
and coverage of events across the world makes new demands
of journalists and with those demands comes the necessity
for a far greater sense of responsibility and professionalism.
That is why we set up the College of Journalism and
Mass Communication and we intend to build on that experience
to create South Asia’s first University of Mass
Communication. We have taken the first steps towards
that ambition by registering our intent with the Government
of Nepal.
The university will extend the work we are already doing
in the college. It will bring together academic disciplines
and professional skills, taught by practicing journalists,
to aid the profession in Nepal with people having both
professional and technical expertise.
