Launched in January 2001, the College of Journalism
and Mass Communication became the first private sector
initiative in Nepal to offer academic courses in journalism
and mass communication.
It also earned the distinction of being the pioneering
college under a woman leadership in the Himalayan nation
to run master’s degree in journalism, offering
both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in
journalism under one roof and launching a master’s
degree in development communication to produce skilled
and efficient communicators for the development sector.
The college is affiliated to Purbanchal University.
The rules and regulations of the University govern the
college so far as the semester and exam systems are
concerned. However, the college enjoys enough independence
in terms of teaching and learning to allow it to design
courses whose hallmark is the great emphasis placed
on both theoretical and professional knowledge of students
in their chosen level and field of study.
The college has attracted both young people who want
a career in mass communications and working journalists
who wish to sharpen their skills and an academic understanding
of their profession.

Mr. Bharat Dutta Koirala,
Ramon Magsaysay Award Winner, with Dr. Manju and Robert
C. Kerr, Director of the American Centre at the official
opening of the college.

The Institute worked with the college to draft the
syllabus for radio. The college is properly equipped
for the students’ needs and we know Dr. Mishra
wants to turn its training studio into a live radio
station run by the students as a community radio. We
expect to hear of her success soon. Congratulations!
